BCHEA
The BCHEA is here to help parents understand what homeschooling means in BC and to support families as they chart their homeschooling path. Under BC law, “homeschooling” is not the same as enrolling in one of the dozens of Online Learning programs overseen by the Ministry of Education.

Homeschooling in BC
In BC, homeschooling means opting out of the school system, whether temporarily or long term, and taking on responsibility for, and authority over, your child’s educational program. You are not required to follow the BC curriculum, but if you wish to, you can find it online to use as a guide. This allows parents the flexibility and freedom to design a program personalized to their child’s needs, strengths and passions, without government involvement. The BC School Act has included homeschooling provisions since 1989, and since that time, thousands of students have benefited from having this option available.
