WHO IS THE BCHEA

The BCHEA is here to help parents understand what homeschooling means in BC and to support families as they chart their homeschooling path. Under BC law, “homeschooling” is not the same as enrolling in one of the dozens of Online Learning programs overseen by the Ministry of Education.

Homeschooling in BC

In BC, homeschooling means opting out of the school system, whether temporarily or long term, and taking on responsibility for, and authority over, your child’s educational program. You are not required to follow the BC curriculum allowing you the flexibility and freedom to design a program personalized to your child’s needs, strengths and passions, without government involvement.

Community Building

Homeschooling is strengthed by community. By building networks of support, families offer their children an enriched environment where friendships flourish and resources are shared. Find a home learning support group in you area.
