Ministry Supervised Education – Government holds the authority over the child’s education
BRICKS and MORTAR SCHOOL: Enrol in Public or Independent (ie:Private )
- Must follow BC Curriculum
- Public Schools must use secular resources
- Independent Schools are governed by Independent School Act
- Learning takes place in a classroom
- Learning is supervised by a BC certified teacher
- Learning is facilitated by a BC certified teacher
- Students are assessed, graded, receive report cards and a permanent student record
- School is Government funded
ONLINE LEARNING SCHOOL: Enrol in Public or Independent (ie private)
- Must follow BC Curriculum
- Public Schools must use secular resources
- Independent Schools are governed by Independent School Act
- Learning takes place at home or elsewhere
- Learning is supervised by a BC certified teacher
- Learning is facilitated by a caregiver
- Students are assessed, graded, receive report cards and a permanent student record
- School is government funded. Some may allow families to direct a portion to third party vendors.
Parent Supervised Education – Parent holds the authority over the child’s education
HOMESCHOOLING: Opt out of the BC school system
- Must provide an educational programme which, in parent’s opinion, meets the definition in the BC School Act
- Learning takes place at home or elsewhere
- Learning is facilitated by caregiver
- Must register intent to remain outside of the system annually
- Must provide a healthy and supportive environment
